Somehow our quick trip to Home Depot after work tonight cost us $2,000.
We broke down and ordered our countertops tonight. Since Costco's estimate for Silestone came out at around $500 more than expected -- of course -- we decided to spend the same amount and splurge for granite at Home Depot.
FP picked out the new countertop color. We brought along a piece of the new Kalsebo cabinets to color-coordinate, and the granite (Stonemark in Canelle) looks even better than the Silestone in person. The color swatch does not do it justice.
We also special-ordered a small undermount sink, which is extra-deep and perfect for future TH bathtimes.
Since the dishwasher has to be in place before they can measure for the countertops, I picked out a Whirlpool model tonight. But we will be purchasing that from the wonderful AppliancesBuyPhone, which has free delivery, no sales tax, 48-hour turnaround, and really cheap prices. We used this company to buy our stove last year and it was the most painless purchase ever.
We also bought hardware for the base cabinets and the pantry (see photos), and got the labor estimate for the flooring ($2,800 -- at this point we are sighing and thinking, "I suppose it could be worse"). We are getting confirmation on our flooring materials selection tomorrow, so no photos of that for now.
And only now is it occuring to me that it was ridiculous to debate whether we should go with $5 or $3 knobs, when we are spending $2,000 on a small slab of rock. But I guess it is all relative.
