Comic Con

Ah, Comic Con. Where to start?

First: Comic Con New York is an annual show at the Javits Center (there's a bigger Comic Con in San Diego). It has grown to cover not just comics and graphic novels, but also sci-fi and fantasy books, movies, TV, games, figurines, anime, manga ... pretty much all things nerdy. Which happen to also be all things PP and I love. Plus, at Comic Con people wear costumes. Oh how they wear costumes.

But last year I told PP that I thought Comic Con tickets were a waste of money, and unfortunately PP listened to me. Then the show sold out, and every single one of our favorite writers, artists, and actors showed up.

Brian K. Vaughan. Kevin Smith. Joss Whedon. The cast of Buffy. The entire cast of Battlestar Galactica.

I am still apologizing for that.

So this year we bought our tickets early, when TH was but a newborn. Since he is a wizened little guy, with big eyes and wrinkly features, we decided to dress him up as Yoda.

This is the thing. We knew that at least 20% of the attendees would be really, really dressed up. So our little baby in a Yoda hat shouldn't have been that big a deal. And yet it was.

Everywhere we went, people stopped and asked if they could take TH's picture. Seriously, it happened at least 2 dozen times. And he giggled and smiled for them all. We even got on TV: Space, the Canadian answer to the Sci Fi Channel, filmed TH for a news segment.

In a bit of "Imperial Propaganda," TH also played patty-cake with a few Storm Troopers.

Sure, we didn't get to see this year's Battlestar Galactica panel. And we missed the clips from the new Indiana Jones, and the preview of Kevin Smith's new movie, and the Robot Chicken panel, and the Stan Lee signing. But we got to explore Comic Con with our own little Jedi Master, which was more than enough.

Next up: The best quotes overheard at Comic Con. There are so many that they require their very own post.
